About John

Bonjour à tous.

Thanks so much for finding me here. I am a United States transplant, living in the South of France, painting the new world around me.

I am originally from the state of Colorado, but most recently moved to France from San Francisco, California. I am essentially a self-trained artist, although I have painted my whole life and I have always been enrolled in an art class of some sort. My work-life has always been creative as well. I worked as a graphic designer for 15 years for my own perfume company in Denver. From there, I became an interior designer in San Francisco for 15 years. As an interior designer, I was able use my previous experience in color and composition every day. I was also able to paint on canvas regularly for the “Home Staging” department of my company, where my pieces were featured for years in hundreds of San Francisco real estate listings.

Before leaving San Francisco, I volunteered, one day a week for 4 years, at a celebrated art gallery in the Mission District. It was called Creativity Explored (creativityexplored.org). In this gallery, artists with developmental disabilities would come each day to paint their souls on canvas. I was so fortunate to work directly with the artists each day. I learned to see art through their eyes, which often had few, or no, filters. The amount of inspiration and love I experienced during these years was life-changing and confirmed my deep passion for painting.

Fast forward to France. I now have the time and space to channel all of my past experience into painting. I want to visually interpret all of the fabulous images of the villages and countryside where I live. I have settled in the Dordogne Valley—land of a thousand medieval castles—with such a rich history and natural beauty. I hope to convey my story to you through pictures.

Merci.

John
